Product Overview

This is the head end of a drench shower rather than a complete station: a yellow ABS bowl head on a stainless pipe with a threaded top connection, and a stainless pull rod carrying a yellow triangular handle. It screws onto a supply pipe that is already in place, which makes it useful in two situations — replacing a head that has been damaged or has gone brittle, or adding a shower point to pipework that already exists.

The bowl is ABS rather than metal: it does not corrode, it will not dent if something is knocked against it, and it is light enough that the pipe and bracket do not have to be heavy.

When You Only Need the Head

• Damaged bowl – a cracked or UV-degraded head on an otherwise sound station can be swapped without replacing the column or valve.

• New shower point on existing pipe – where a supply pipe already runs overhead, the head, rod and valve can be added without a full station.

• Corrosive plant – ABS bowl on a stainless pipe suits chemical, coastal and wash-down areas where a painted steel head rusts.

• Colour visibility – yellow against grey pipework and dark ceilings, so the head is easy to find overhead.

Construction

• Yellow ABS bowl head – wide flare to spread the water over head and shoulders.

• Stainless steel pipe – threaded top connection for screwing into the supply.

• Stainless pull rod – hangs within reach and opens the valve by pull.

• Yellow triangular handle – moulded grip, easy to catch with a gloved hand or a forearm.

• Valve connection – opens and latches on pull so the user can step back under the water.

Technical Specifications

Installation

1. Check the supply can deliver the full shower flow at the site pressure before fitting.

2. Confirm the pipe height gives a head-to-head clearance that puts the water over the user's head and shoulders, not in front of the face only.

3. Fit with thread sealant; the joint must take the weight and the pull of the rod.

4. Set the pull rod length so the handle hangs at chest height for the shortest regular user.

5. Open the valve and check the spray pattern covers head and body evenly, and that it latches open.

6. Confirm the floor under the shower drains away and that nothing is stored beneath it.

Maintenance

• Weekly: pull the rod, confirm the head runs clear and the valve latches, check the bowl for cracks.

• Monthly: check the pipe joint and the rod for wear.

• Quarterly: clean the head face; check the ABS bowl for UV chalkiness.

• Annually: measure the flow and replace a head that has gone brittle or lost its flare.

Standards and Compliance

The head is designed to meet ANSI Z358.1-2014 drench shower flow requirements, but a head alone is not a compliant station: the installation also needs a tepid water supply, a valve that stays open without being held, correct mounting height, a clear approach within about ten seconds of the hazard, signage and weekly activation. Where eyes may also be affected, an eyewash must be provided as well.
