The RY-EA-BW is a stainless steel eyewash bowl supplied as a spare part for bowl-type eye wash stations. It is a round, shallow basin with a rolled rim and a single central drain outlet, in two sizes designated 26 and 29, both in stainless steel 304 with a polished interior. The bowl is supplied on its own: the spray head, the drain fitting and the mounting brackets are separate items, so a bowl can be replaced when the basin is dented, cracked at the drain or worn through, without buying a complete station.
A bowl looks like the simplest part of an eyewash, which is why it is often specified by diameter alone. It has three jobs and each one can fail.
Catch the water and get rid of it. At the required eyewash flow the bowl fills fast. If the central drain is undersized, partly blocked or fitted with a strainer full of debris, the bowl overflows down the user's front and onto their feet — which is exactly the wrong thing to do to someone flushing a chemical splash. The drain has to be able to take the full flow with margin, and the strainer has to be clean at every inspection.
Present a safe edge. The rim is at face height when someone is bent over it, so a rolled edge is not decoration: a split or dented rim can cut a forehead or a cheek, and a burr from a badly cut drain hole can do the same to a hand reaching in to clear it. When a bowl is replaced, run a hand round the rim before it goes into service.
Direct the water rather than spread it. The basin profile should carry water to the centre instead of letting it pool at the edge and splash back up. A bowl that is too shallow, or one that has been deformed by being used as a step, will splash the user and the floor around the station.
Two further points sit around the bowl rather than in it. The bowl's height above the floor and its distance from the wall are station requirements, so the assembly must be re-checked after a bowl swap. And the bowl is bowl-only: the spray head threads through it, so the shank thread and the mounting pattern have to match what is already on the column, which is the detail that decides whether a spare will fit.
Stainless steel 304 bowl with a polished interior, suitable for tepid water service.
Rolled rim giving a smooth edge at face height, with no exposed sharp lip.
Single central drain outlet, positioned so the bowl empties completely rather than holding a puddle.
Two sizes, designated 26 and 29, to suit different station widths and mounting brackets.
Shallow basin profile that carries water to the centre and limits splash at the rim.
Supplied as a bowl only, so an existing spray head, drain fitting and bracket can be reused.
Polished surface that wipes clean and shows contamination, making inspection straightforward.
Replacement part for basins that are dented, cracked at the drain or worn at the rim.
Individual protective packing, so the polished face arrives without handling marks.

Isolate the station supply and lock the valve off, then remove the spray head and disconnect the drain before releasing the bowl.
Check the new bowl against the old one for diameter, drain position and mounting hole pattern before fitting; a bowl that is close in size but wrong in pattern will not seal.
Fit the drain fitting with a new washer, checking that the outlet sits at the lowest point of the basin so the bowl empties fully.
Refit the spray head through the bowl, tighten the backnut from below and confirm the head does not rotate with the nozzles.
Restore the supply slowly, run the eyewash at full flow and confirm the bowl drains without backing up or overflowing at the rim.
Re-check the nozzle height above the floor and the distance from the wall, then record the flow reading and the bowl size in the maintenance file.
Weekly: operate the eyewash for at least three minutes and confirm the bowl drains freely, with no standing water left in the basin.
Monthly: clear the drain strainer, wipe the bowl and run a hand round the rim to check for dents, splits or burrs.
Quarterly: check the drain joint for weeping, inspect the bowl underside for corrosion at the outlet, and confirm the spray head is still seated square in the bowl.
Annually: inspect the rim and the drain hole for cracking, and replace the bowl if it holds water, is deformed, or shows corrosion at the outlet.
The bowl is a component of an emergency eyewash; the installed station must meet ANSI Z358.1-2014 in full — fifteen minutes of flushing with tepid water at 20–37 °C, hands-free activation, nozzles at the required height above the floor and clearance from the wall, and unobstructed access within ten seconds of the hazard. A bowl that overflows at working flow is a defect even when the nozzle flow is correct, because the user cannot hold position in it. Replacing a bowl does not by itself make a station compliant, and the height and clearance must be re-verified after fitting rather than assumed from the old installation.
Replacement of dented, cracked or corroded bowls on existing bowl-type eye wash stations, refurbishment of stations where the head and pipework are sound, spare-part stock for maintenance teams, and repairs after a bowl has been damaged by impact or by being used as a step.
State the model RY-EA-BW, the bowl size required (26 or 29), the drain outlet size, and the make and model of the station it is to fit so the mounting pattern and the spray head thread can be checked. Confirm whether a drain fitting and washer are to be supplied with the bowl. Where the part is bought to fix a specific fault, say whether the problem is overflow, a leaking drain or a damaged rim, since the remedy differs.
