Product Overview

This model puts the whole eyewash and shower function on one free-standing stainless steel frame: an overhead drench shower at the top of the column, a twin-nozzle eyewash basin at working height, and a large grating platform at the base that also acts as the foot pedal. Because the treadle is the full width of the platform, the user does not have to aim for a small pedal while injured — standing on the deck starts the eye flush and both hands stay free to hold the eyelids open. A hinged lid covers the basin between uses, and guardrails on both sides give the casualty something to hold while flushing.

The frame, basin, column, shower arm and grating are all stainless steel, so the station can be hosed down and will not rust in wet or mildly corrosive areas.

Key Components

  • Large grating pedal platform – a full-width stainless grating deck on a raised frame works as the foot treadle for the eyewash, so activation does not depend on finding a small pedal with wet shoes.

  • Side guardrails – tubular stainless rails on both sides of the platform give the user a handhold and mark the footprint of the station, which helps keep forklifts and trolleys clear.

  • Hinged flip lid – the eyewash basin is covered by a hinged stainless lid that keeps dust, swarf and splashes out of the nozzles and lifts out of the way in use.

  • Twin eyewash nozzles – two aerated heads set at an upward angle flush both eyes together with a soft, wide pattern rather than a hard jet.

  • Overhead drench shower with pull chain – the deluge head is opened by pulling the chain; the valve stays open so the user can step out of contaminated clothing under running water.

  • Identification plate – a green safety sign is fixed at the eyewash so the station is recognised immediately from the aisle.

  • All-stainless build – column, arm, basin, lid, rails, frame and grating in polished stainless steel; assembled and tested before shipment.

Operating Instructions

  1. Reach the station within 10 seconds of the hazard, lift the hinged lid with one hand if the eyewash is needed, and step onto the grating platform.

  2. Standing on the platform opens the eyewash valve; hold the guardrails and use the thumbs and forefingers to keep the eyelids open while rolling the eyes.

  3. If the body is contaminated, pull the shower chain and stay under the deluge; the valve remains open until it is pushed back.

  4. Flush for at least 15 minutes and remove contaminated clothing under the running water.

  5. Step off the platform and close the shower valve; lower the lid once the basin has drained.

Installation Requirements

  • Set the frame on a level, load-bearing floor on the same level as the hazard, with an unobstructed approach of at least the ANSI walking distance.

  • Anchor through the holes in the base frame using fixings suited to the floor; check the column is plumb before final tightening.

  • Connect the 1-1/4 inch inlet, flush the line first, and pressure test at 0.2 – 0.4 MPa.

  • Confirm that the platform treadle returns freely, the lid opens without binding, and the shower chain operates the stay-open valve.

  • Check shower and eyewash flow, and where the site requires tepid water fit a thermostatic mixing valve upstream.

Inspection Checklist

ItemWhat to check
WeeklyStep on the platform and pull the chain to confirm both functions operate and the supply line is refreshed.
WeeklyCheck that the lid opens freely and that the nozzles are clear of dust and debris.
MonthlyClean nozzles and inlet filter, inspect the treadle linkage and the chain for wear.
MonthlyCheck the guardrails and their fixings for looseness, and the platform grating for damage.
AnnuallyMeasure flow rates, inspect seals and valves, replace worn parts and re-tag the unit.

Standards and Compliance

The station is designed to the performance requirements of ANSI Z358.1-2014 and EN 15154: hands-free activation of the eyewash, a stay-open shower valve, twin eyewash heads giving a controlled low-pressure flush, and a deluge head that covers the whole body. Correct installation — same level as the hazard, within 10 seconds' travel, with the shower head and eyewash at the heights required by the standard — is part of compliance and should be verified at commissioning.

Applications

Chemical and petrochemical plants, pharmaceutical and food production, university and industrial laboratories, battery and semiconductor lines, paint and coating shops, water treatment works and workshops where acids, alkalis, solvents or hot liquids are handled. The guardrails and full-width pedal are particularly useful where the floor is often wet or where boots make a small pedal hard to find.
