RY-EA-SH2 Stainless Steel Drench Shower Head with Blue Removable Diffuser Plate

Product Overview

The RY-EA-SH2 is a drench shower head with a polished stainless steel bowl and a blue perforated diffuser plate held in the centre by a single screw. The bowl spreads the flow over the standing position; the plate divides it into the many small streams that make an even umbrella rather than a hard column. Because the plate is a separate part, it can be lifted out and descaled properly — which is the practical difference between this head and one with the perforations moulded into the body. It is supplied as a spare for drench shower stations where the head is scaled, cracked or has lost its pattern.

Why a Removable Diffuser and a Single Screw Matter

Two small features decide how this head behaves over its service life, and they point in opposite directions.

The removable plate is the maintenance advantage. Perforations that are moulded into a bowl can only be cleared from the outside, by soaking and poking, and scale that has hardened inside them is very hard to shift. A plate on a central screw lifts out, can be soaked flat, can be brushed through from both faces, and can be inspected against a light. On a hard-water site that is the difference between a head that is restored and one that is quietly replaced.

The single screw is the failure point. One screw holds the plate — and if it works loose, the plate drops out. The head then becomes an open pipe end: a hard column of water instead of an umbrella, which is both ineffective for decontamination and capable of injuring an already distressed user. A loose or missing retaining screw is therefore not a cosmetic defect; it is the fault to look for on every inspection, and it is cheap to prevent by checking it with the plate in place.

Blue on stainless is a deliberate contrast. Scale and residue show as white on a blue plate, and a missing plate leaves a bare stainless centre that is obvious from below. That makes the plate easy to check from the floor without climbing to the head — the kind of detail that decides whether an inspection actually happens.

Stainless carries its own caveats. It tolerates hot flushing far better than a moulded plastic bowl, which matters if a mixing valve fails, and it holds its shape if struck. It is heavier, and it will tea-stain rather than corrode; in chloride-rich or coastal atmospheres, 316 should be specified instead of the standard grade. The blue plate itself is a moulded part with its own temperature limit, so a station flushed well above the tepid band can still distort the diffuser even though the bowl survives.

The bowl still needs a level arm. The head has a plain threaded socket rather than a swivel, so its umbrella sits level only if the shower arm is level; a bent arm tilts the pattern and gives one side of the user more water than the other.

Key Features

  • Polished stainless steel bowl that holds its shape and tolerates hot flushing better than moulded plastic.

  • Blue perforated diffuser plate that divides the flow into an even umbrella across the standing position.

  • Plate retained by a single central screw and removable for proper descaling from both faces.

  • Blue plate on stainless gives clear visual contrast, so scale and a missing plate are both obvious.

  • Replacement plate and screw available separately, so a damaged diffuser does not condemn the bowl.

  • Female threaded socket underneath, screwing onto a standard shower arm.

  • Wide bowl form that spreads the flow rather than concentrating it.

  • No moulded perforations to clog irreversibly; the working surface is a part that can be replaced.

  • Individual packing, so the polished bowl arrives without handling marks.

Fitting

  1. Isolate the station supply, lock the valve off and release pressure before removing the old head.

  2. Check the shower arm is level and undamaged, and that its thread matches the socket; correct a bent arm rather than compensating at the head.

  3. Fit the head with the correct sealant or washer for potable-quality water and tighten by hand plus a part turn.

  4. Check the diffuser plate is seated flat and the central screw is tight, with the plate unable to move under a finger.

  5. Restore the supply slowly, run the shower at full flow and confirm the umbrella is even across the full face with no dry sector.

  6. Confirm the head height is within the required band and record the flow reading at the shower.

Maintenance and Inspection

Weekly: operate the shower for at least three minutes and check the umbrella is even; confirm the diffuser plate is present and the retaining screw tight.

Monthly: look up at the plate against the light; clear scale from the perforations and check the screw has not loosened.

Quarterly: remove the plate and screw, soak and brush the plate from both faces, rinse the bowl, and refit with the screw firm.

Annually: replace the plate if the perforations cannot be cleared or it is distorted; inspect the bowl for tea-staining or corrosion and check the socket thread.

Standards and Compliance

This head is a component of an emergency drench shower; the installed station must meet ANSI Z358.1-2014 in full — fifteen minutes of flushing with tepid water at 20–37 °C, the shower head at the required height, unobstructed access within ten seconds of the hazard, and a minimum flow of 75.7 L/min delivered as a pattern that covers the user. A missing or loose diffuser plate turns this head into an open pipe and fails that pattern requirement even while the flow figure looks correct, so the plate and its screw must be checked as part of the routine test rather than treated as cosmetic.

Applications

Replacement of scaled or damaged heads on drench shower stations in laboratories, workshops, chemical plants and indoor process areas; hard-water sites where moulded perforations cannot be cleaned; and refurbishment of stations where the arm, valve and column are sound.

Ordering

State the model RY-EA-SH2, the socket thread size or the make and model of the shower arm it is to fit, whether stainless 316 is required for a chloride-rich or coastal atmosphere, and the quantity. Confirm whether spare diffuser plates and retaining screws are to be included, since those are the parts that wear in service.
