Product Overview

Most combination stations feed the shower and the eyewash from one pipe. This model takes two: the overhead deluge shower and the eyewash basin are supplied through separate inlets and separate valves, so each function can be isolated, adjusted or fed from a different source without affecting the other. On sites where the eye flush must be tepid treated water while the shower draws from the process line — or where one line has to be shut down for maintenance — that independence is the whole point of the unit.

The eyewash uses a single large-aperture nozzle rather than twin heads. One wide, soft stream covers both eyes, there are fewer orifices to block, and the head is quick to inspect and clean. The station is all stainless steel, floor-mounted on a bolted flange, with a yellow triangular pull handle for the shower and a green instruction sign at eye level.

Why Two Inlets

  • Independent isolation – the eyewash can be serviced, flushed or tested while the shower stays live, and vice versa. A single-line unit has to be shut down completely for either job.

  • Different water quality – the eyewash can be fed with filtered or tempered water while the shower uses the plant supply, which suits sites with one treated line and one raw line.

  • Separate temperature control – a thermostatic mixing valve can be fitted on the eyewash line only, avoiding the cost of tempering the much larger shower flow.

  • Easier fault-finding – if flow drops, the cause is confined to one line, cutting the time to restore the station.

Single Nozzle Eyewash

  • One wide stream – a single large-aperture head produces a broad, low-pressure pattern that can be directed over both eyes by the user.

  • Fewer blockages – one orifice instead of many small ones, with no aerator screens to clog with scale or debris.

  • Quick to inspect – the head can be checked and cleaned in seconds during the weekly activation test.

Key Features

  • Overhead deluge shower – large bowl-shaped head with a yellow triangular pull handle; the stay-open valve keeps water running while clothing is removed.

  • Green instruction sign – pictogram sign at eye level showing how to operate the station.

  • Yellow PUSH sign – mounted at the basin to identify the eyewash control.

  • Stainless steel basin and column – 304 stainless, polished, resistant to chemical splash and washdown.

  • Two inlet stubs at the column – independent connections for shower and eyewash, each with its own valve.

  • Bolted floor flange – single column fixed to a level floor; no platform or pit.

Operation

  1. Reach the station within 10 seconds of the hazard and stand under the head, facing the basin.

  2. For eye or face exposure, press the eyewash plate; the single nozzle delivers a wide stream that the user directs over both eyes while holding the eyelids open with thumbs and forefingers.

  3. For body contamination, pull the yellow triangular handle; the shower valve stays open until it is pushed back.

  4. Flush for at least 15 minutes, removing contaminated clothing under the running water, then seek medical attention.

  5. Close both valves and confirm the station is clear for the next user.

Installation and Commissioning

  • Position on a level, load-bearing floor on the same level as the hazard, within 10 seconds' travel, with clear approach space under the head.

  • Anchor through the floor flange with fixings suited to the floor; check the column is plumb before final tightening.

  • Connect the two supplies to their respective inlets — shower line and eyewash line — and fit an isolation valve on each so either function can be serviced independently.

  • Flush both lines before connection, then pressure test at 0.2 – 0.4 MPa and check that neither inlet leaks into the other circuit.

  • Operate the pull handle and the eyewash plate; confirm the shower stays open when released and that the eyewash flow is steady and centred on the basin.

  • Verify flow rates on both lines, fit the signs at eye level and record the commissioning date.

Maintenance

  • Weekly: operate both functions, confirm independent shut-off works, and check that the nozzle stream is even.

  • Monthly: clean the single nozzle and the shower head face; check both valves and the basin for leaks or scale.

  • Quarterly: inspect the column, flange bolts and both inlet joints for corrosion or weeping; confirm the signs are legible.

  • Annually: measure flow on each line, replace worn seals or the nozzle, and re-tag the unit.

Standards and Compliance

The station is designed to the performance requirements of ANSI Z358.1-2014 and EN 15154 for combination emergency shower and eyewash equipment: hands-free eyewash activation, a stay-open shower valve, an eyewash head that delivers a controlled low-pressure flush, and shower coverage of the whole body. Two inlets must both remain live in service; if one line is isolated for maintenance, the station is only partly available and should be tagged accordingly. Installation on the same level as the hazard, within 10 seconds' travel, with heads at the heights set by the standard, must be verified at commissioning.

Applications

Chemical and pharmaceutical plants, laboratories with a treated water line for eye flushing, plating and surface treatment lines, food and beverage plants, and any site where the shower and the eyewash are fed from separate systems or must be isolated independently.

Ordering

Order by model RYFHS029. Please confirm the size, pressure and water quality of both supply lines, the floor type and the required basin height when enquiring; a twin-head eyewash version of the same column is also available if a single nozzle does not suit the site standard.
