RY-EA-N1 Single Yellow Eyewash Nozzle with Hinged Flip Cap and Stainless Strainer

Product Overview

The RY-EA-N1 is a single eyewash nozzle in yellow moulded plastic, with a flip cap joined to the body by an integral hinge and a stainless steel mesh strainer set in the nozzle mouth. It screws into the spray head manifold of a bowl-type eye wash station and is rotated to aim its stream at the eye position. It is supplied as a spare, either for a single-nozzle station or as a matched pair for a twin head, and it is the replacement to reach for when a nozzle is blocked beyond cleaning, a cap has broken off, or a strainer has been pushed through.

Why a Hinged Nozzle Is the Least-Lost Cover

Three cover types sit on eyewash nozzles, and they fail in three different ways. A separate plastic cover gets lost. A stainless cap on a chain gets left on, or its chain gets broken. A hinged cap joined to the nozzle body cannot be separated from it — and that single fact removes the most common cover fault on a station, which is a head found with no covers at all.

What the hinge does not remove is its own wear. A living hinge on a moulded part is flexed every time the station is tested, and it is the first thing to fatigue. When it cracks, the cap hangs from one side, flaps, and eventually drops — and at that point the station is back to an open nozzle. That is why the hinge is inspected, not just the cap: a cap that still looks yellow and intact can be two flexes from falling off.

The strainer is the second feature worth understanding. A stainless mesh disc in the mouth stops grit and scale before it reaches the waterway, and it is the first thing to check when one side of an eyewash runs weak. It is also the part that gets pushed inward by someone trying to clear a blockage with a wire, after which it sits in the flow path and distorts the stream. Once a disc is deformed it should be replaced, not straightened.

Two practical consequences follow. The nozzle body is plastic, so it suits indoor benches and general workshops but degrades under sustained UV outdoors — on an external station, metal nozzles and metal caps last longer. And because the aim is set by rotating the nozzle in its thread, the aim has to be re-checked after every replacement; a nozzle screwed in to the same depth is not the same as one aimed at the eyes.

Key Features

  • Single yellow nozzle body in moulded plastic, highly visible against a stainless head.

  • Integral hinged flip cap, joined to the body so it cannot be lost or separated.

  • Cap opens with a finger or a nudge from the forehead, leaving both hands free.

  • Stainless steel mesh strainer in the nozzle mouth, catching grit and scale before the waterway.

  • Replaceable strainer disc, so a deformed or blocked disc does not condemn the nozzle.

  • Rotatable in its thread to aim the stream at the eye position.

  • Suitable for a single-nozzle station or as a matched pair on a twin head.

  • Simple part with no internal mechanism to seize: body, hinge and disc are the whole assembly.

  • Individual packing, suitable for spare-part stock on a maintenance van.

Fitting

  1. Isolate the station supply, lock the valve off, and operate the station to release pressure before removing the old nozzle.

  2. Check the thread on the new nozzle against the manifold; a mismatched thread will start but will not seal or aim correctly.

  3. Fit with the correct sealant or washer for potable-quality water and screw in by hand, then a part turn with a correct-size tool — not with pliers on the plastic.

  4. Flush the station briefly, then open the cap and check the stream shape and the aim at the eye position.

  5. Rotate the nozzle to aim both streams so they converge where a face would be, and confirm neither sprays outside the bowl.

  6. Operate the station at full flow and record the flow reading; confirm the cap seats again on its hinge and covers the mouth.

Maintenance and Inspection

Weekly: open the cap, operate the station for at least three minutes and confirm the stream is full and aimed correctly; check the hinge for cracking.

Monthly: rinse the strainer disc, look through it against a light, and check the cap seats flat on the nozzle mouth.

Quarterly: remove the disc and clean it properly; replace it if deformed or still partly blocked; check the nozzle body for cracks at the thread.

Annually: replace the nozzle if the hinge is cracked, the body is discoloured and brittle, or the thread no longer holds the aim.

Standards and Compliance

This nozzle is a component of an emergency eyewash; the installed station must meet ANSI Z358.1-2014 in full — fifteen minutes of flushing with tepid water at 20–37 °C, hands-free activation, nozzles at the required height above the floor, unobstructed access within ten seconds of the hazard, and a controlled twin stream at a velocity the casualty can tolerate with the eyes held open. A nozzle replacement does not by itself make a station compliant, and the aim and height must be verified after fitting. Covers must be present and functional at every inspection; a station with a missing or broken cap is a finding, because the nozzle is then open to dust and debris.

Applications

Replacement of blocked, cracked or discoloured nozzles on bowl-type eye wash stations, single-nozzle stations, matching pairs on twin heads, and spare-part stock for maintenance teams servicing indoor benches and workshops.

Ordering

State the model RY-EA-N1, the thread size or the make and model of the spray head it is to fit, the quantity (one for a single nozzle, two for a twin head), and whether spare strainer discs are to be included. Where the nozzle is bought to fix a specific fault, say whether the problem is a weak stream, a broken hinge or a missing cap, since the remedy differs. For outdoor stations, ask about the metal nozzle and cap alternatives, as moulded plastic parts degrade under sustained UV.
