This is the standard-looking windsock — red and white segments, stainless pole, round base plate — supplied as one matched set rather than as a cone that still needs a mast. It suits the site that has decided it needs a wind indicator and has nothing in place yet: no frame to measure, no pivot to source, no plate to fabricate.
The cone hangs on red webbing straps from a swivel at the capped pole top and turns freely into the wind. Nothing is illuminated, so the installation stays mechanical: bolt the plate, stand the pole, hang the cone.
Red and white cone – alternating segments, reinforced mouth, red webbing straps.
Swivel attachment – free rotation at the pole top.
Stainless steel pole – corrosion-resistant, capped at the top.
Round base plate – flat plate for bolting to a concrete plinth or steel deck.
Reads against more than one background – red separates from sky and green, white separates from darker structures and shadow.
Bands give a length scale – the segments let the viewer judge extension, so strength is indicated as well as direction.
Recognised without instruction – crews, drivers and visitors read this layout instinctively.
Consistent with the illuminated version – if the site later adds a lit assembly, the reading stays the same.
One matched set – pole diameter, swivel and cone mouth are made for each other.
Stainless steel pole and plate – for coastal, humid and chemical environments.
Capped pole top – keeps rain out of the tube and closes the pivot.
Bolt-down base – can be relocated when the layout changes.
Cone renewable separately – replace the fabric without touching the mast.

| Base | Round stainless base plate, bolt-down |
| Attachment | Red webbing straps with swivel at the pole top |
| Cone length | Per product drawing; matched to pole and reading distance |
| Power supply | None required — unlit cone |
| Installation | Anchor base plate, stand pole plumb, hang cone |
Choose pole height from the reading distance; an oversized pole makes the cone small and its extension hard to judge.
Keep the cone long enough that a half-extended sock still differs visibly from a fully extended one.
State the mounting surface, reading distance and any height restrictions when ordering.
Mark a position visible from the approach it serves, clear of doors, escape routes and vehicle paths.
Bolt the base plate to a level plinth or deck, using the plate holes as a template.
Stand the pole and check it plumb before final tightening.
Check the swivel rotates freely through a full circle.
Hang the cone with the reinforced mouth to the wind; confirm it hangs straight in calm air.
Monthly: check the mouth edge for splits, straps and swivel for wear, base fixings for looseness.
Quarterly: wash the cone with water only; check pole and plate for corrosion at the fixings.
After storms: check the pole is plumb, the swivel free, the cone not twisted round the top.
Replace the cone when the red has paled or the mouth is torn; pole and plate stay in service.
The set supplies a segmented wind direction indicator of the conventional aviation colour layout, read by shape and extension. Being unlit, its night performance depends on site lighting or vehicle headlamps. Anchoring, pole height, siting relative to the hazard or approach, and local requirements for wind indicators should be confirmed at installation.
Airfields and airstrips, helipads, ports and terminals, construction and crane sites, chemical plants, and facilities installing a wind indicator from scratch.
Order by model RYWS-RW-P01. Please state pole height, cone length, fixing method and reading distance. The cone alone is available for existing masts; orange and white and solid red reflective versions of both the cone and the complete set are also offered, and an illuminated red and white assembly with dual LED floodlights is available where the station must be visible at night without traffic.
