Product Overview

A 12 litre eye wash that is carried rather than installed. The yellow body hangs from a shoulder strap, the twin nozzles sit on a flexible neck so they can be brought to the face rather than the face to them, and the orange ring at the top is what the hand finds first — pull it and the flow starts. Water goes in through the cap on top.

This is the unit for the person who is not standing next to a station: on a ladder, in a pit, at the far end of a yard, or in a response bag on a vehicle.

Where a 12 L Unit Fits

  • Mobile work – carried on the shoulder while both hands stay free until the moment it is needed.

  • Ladder and height work – hangs on the harness or the rail instead of being left at the bottom.

  • Response bags and vehicles – small enough to live in a spill kit or a service van.

  • Remote points – covers the first moments when the nearest station is a walk away.

Capacity, Stated Honestly

  • 12 L at a nominal 11.4 L/min eyewash flow gives roughly one minute of flushing.

  • That is a first-aid bridge, not a substitute for a fifteen-minute station: it buys the walk to a plumbed unit.

  • Refilling is quick, so a second unit can be carried where the exposure justifies it.

Construction

  • 12 L yellow HDPE body – moulded tank with capacity marking on the side.

  • Twin green nozzles – on a flexible neck, angled for eye-level flushing.

  • Orange pull ring – starts the flow; the obvious part to grab.

  • Shoulder strap – hung from the top of the body.

  • Top fill cap – screw cap for refilling and weekly water change.

Use and Weekly Care

  1. Fill with clean tepid water through the top cap and close it firmly.

  2. Hang the unit on the shoulder, or on the rail or harness if working at height.

  3. Pull the orange ring, bring the twin nozzles to the eyes and flush.

  4. After flushing, go to the nearest fixed station and continue for the full fifteen minutes.

  5. Weekly: replace the water, run the unit briefly, wipe the nozzles and check the strap.

  6. Record the refill date on the body so the water is never older than a week.

Maintenance

  • Weekly water change is the main task; a carried unit is often forgotten, so make it part of the same round as fixed stations.

  • Monthly: check the strap stitching, the pull ring and the nozzle caps.

  • Quarterly: sanitise and rinse the body; check the flexible neck for splits.

  • Annually: replace the strap if the webbing has stiffened, and replace the body if the neck has cracked.

Standards and Compliance

This is a portable first-aid eye wash, not a fixed station: twelve litres cannot deliver the fifteen-minute flush ANSI Z358.1 describes. It is used to start flushing at the point of exposure and to bridge the walk to a plumbed unit — and where a hazard exists, a fixed station must still be within about ten seconds of it. Water must be changed weekly, kept tepid where the standard requires it, and the unit must be kept filled and within reach rather than stored in a locker.

Applications

Maintenance and service work, ladder and height work, field and remote sites, response bags and service vans, agriculture and chemical handling, and any task where the worker moves away from fixed facilities.
