Product Overview

Some sites cannot run power to a wind indicator — a laydown area, a temporary haul road, a quarry bench, a satellite gate — and a dark cone is no indicator at all. This set takes the reflective route: a solid orange cone with silver bands on a stainless pole with a round base plate, so the sock is bright by day and returns light from headlamps or a floodlight after dark, without a cable or a lamp.

Supplied complete and matched: cone, webbing straps, swivel, capped pole and base plate. Anchor the plate, stand the pole plumb, hang the cone.

What Is in the Set

  • Reflective orange cone – solid body with silver bands wrapped around it.

  • Red webbing straps – four-point suspension to the swivel.

  • Stainless steel pole – capped top, corrosion resistant.

  • Round base plate – for bolting to a plinth, deck or plinth block.

Where This Set Is the Right Choice

  • No power available – nothing to wire, no isolator, no electrician, and no lamp to fail in service.

  • Traffic or floodlights present – the bands come alive whenever a vehicle or lamp faces them, which covers most working hours on an active site.

  • Temporary locations – a bolted plate can be lifted and re-set when the haul road or the compound moves.

  • Single-colour reading – the outline gives direction and extension without the viewer counting segments.

  • Honest limit – an unlit position with no traffic and no lamps stays dark; that site needs a lit assembly instead.

Key Features

  • Complete, matched set – pole, plate, swivel and cone arrive together, so nothing has to be adapted on site.

  • Reflective bands – several bands spaced along the taper so at least one catches a beam from most directions.

  • Stainless steel pole and plate – suited to coastal, humid and chemical environments.

  • Capped pole top – keeps water out of the tube and closes the pivot.

  • Cone renewable on its own – the fabric can be replaced without touching the mast.

Sizing

  • Set the pole height from the reading distance: too tall and the cone becomes small and its extension hard to judge.

  • Keep the cone long enough that a partly extended sock still looks different from a fully extended one.

  • Tell us the reading distance, the mounting surface and any overhead restrictions (crane arcs, power lines) at order.

Installation

  1. Choose a position visible from the approach it serves, clear of doors, escape routes and vehicle paths.

  2. Bolt the base plate to a level plinth or deck using the plate holes as a template.

  3. Stand the pole and check plumb before final tightening.

  4. Check the swivel rotates freely through a full circle.

  5. Hang the cone with the reinforced mouth to the wind; confirm it hangs straight in calm air.

  6. After dark, confirm the bands pick up light from the main approach.

Care and Maintenance

  • Monthly: check the mouth for splits, straps and swivel for wear, and base fixings for looseness.

  • Quarterly: wash the bands with water only — solvents dull the reflective surface; check fixings for corrosion.

  • After storms: check pole plumb, swivel free, cone not twisted around the top.

  • Replace the cone when the orange has paled or the bands stop returning light; pole and plate stay in service.

Standards and Compliance

The set provides a high-visibility wind direction indicator with reflective banding rather than illumination. Night performance depends on a light source aimed at it, so the position has to be on a traffic route or under lighting for the bands to work. Anchoring, height, siting relative to the hazard or approach, and local requirements for wind indicators should be confirmed at installation.

Applications

Construction and haul roads, quarries, laydown and storage yards, ports and terminals, satellite gates, and chemical plants where no power can be run to the mast.

Ordering

Order by model RYWS-OR-P01. Please state pole height, cone length, fixing method and reading distance. The cone is available separately for existing masts; segmented orange and white and solid red reflective versions of both the cone and the complete set are also offered, and an illuminated red and white assembly with dual LED floodlights is available where the mast must be visible with no traffic or lighting nearby.
