A 12 litre eye wash carried on the shoulder, in orange, with one green nozzle on a flexible hose instead of a fixed pair. The hose can be bent to whichever eye is affected and held at the angle that works, while the orange pull ring at the top starts the flow. The body is a moulded tank with a screw cap on top for filling.
Two things decide this version over the yellow twin-head unit: the colour, and the single flexible head.
Rescue colour – orange is used for rescue equipment, high-visibility clothing and spill response; a worker carrying it reads as part of the response kit.
Seen on the ground – set down beside a ladder, a pit or a machine, orange stands out against concrete and steel where a darker unit disappears.
Easy to find in a vehicle – in the back of a service van or a response bag, one bright orange shape is quicker to locate than a bottle among tools.
Survives site grime – a bright body shows where it has been wiped, which helps keep the unit in the condition it has to be in.
Directed at one eye – the hose bends to the affected side, so the stream can be aimed rather than only positioned.
One orifice to clear – weekly checks take seconds; there is no second head to balance or clog unnoticed.
Reaches around a hand – the flexible neck lets the user hold the eyelid open and still keep the stream on the eye.
Trade-off stated – with one head the user moves the stream between eyes; where both eyes may be affected at once, a twin-head unit is the safer choice.
12 L at a nominal 11.4 L/min eyewash flow gives roughly one minute of flushing.
That is a first-aid bridge, not a fifteen-minute station: it buys the walk to a plumbed unit.
Refilling is quick, so a second unit can be carried where exposure justifies it.
12 L orange HDPE body – moulded tank with capacity marking.
Single green nozzle – on a flexible hose from the top of the body.
Orange pull ring – starts the flow.
Shoulder strap – hung from the top of the body.
Screw fill cap – top filling and weekly water change.

Fill with clean tepid water through the top cap and close it firmly.
Hang the unit on the shoulder, or on a rail or harness when working at height.
Pull the orange ring, bend the hose to the affected eye and flush.
After flushing, go to the nearest fixed station and continue for the full fifteen minutes.
Weekly: replace the water, run the unit briefly, wipe the nozzle and check the strap and hose.
Record the refill date on the body so the water is never older than a week.
Weekly water change is the main task; carried units are easily forgotten, so put them on the same round as fixed stations.
Monthly: check the hose for kinks or splits, the pull ring and the cap seal.
Quarterly: sanitise and rinse the body; check the hose where it enters the tank.
Annually: replace the hose and strap if the rubber has stiffened, and replace the body if the neck has cracked.
This is a portable first-aid eye wash, not a fixed station: twelve litres cannot deliver the fifteen-minute flush ANSI Z358.1 describes. It is used to start flushing at the point of exposure and to bridge the walk to a plumbed unit — a fixed station must still be within about ten seconds of the hazard. Water must be changed weekly, kept tepid where the standard requires it, and the unit kept filled and within reach rather than stored away.
Maintenance and service work, height and ladder work, field and remote sites, response bags and service vans, agriculture and chemical handling, and tasks where the worker moves between positions.
