Product Overview

A combination shower and eyewash on a green column, freeze protected by a heated riser, with the electrical work split across two flameproof enclosures stacked on the column. The upper box holds the trace controller and its display; the lower box holds the isolator and the operating buttons, with two flexible hoses running down from that lower box to the eyewash branch.

Two boxes instead of one is a deliberate arrangement: the person isolating the station and the person setting the thermostat are working on different boxes, and neither has to open an enclosure that carries both jobs.

Why Two Enclosures

  • Separation of duties – the isolator is in one box, the trace settings in the other, so a routine isolation does not expose controller terminals.

  • Clear fault-finding – no power at the station points to the lower box; trace not holding temperature points to the upper one.

  • Independent maintenance – either box can be worked on while the other stays closed, which matters where every opening of an Ex enclosure is a procedure.

  • Marking stays readable – each box is marked for its own job, so the area classification and circuit details sit with the part they belong to.

  • Trade-off stated – two enclosures mean two sets of glands and seals to inspect, and more cable between them.

Station Build

  • Green square column – painted steel, bolted stainless base plate with earth point.

  • Stainless shower head – forward arm, full-body coverage.

  • Stainless eyewash basin – twin nozzles, on a side bracket.

  • Triangular pull rod – stainless, stay-open shower valve.

  • Dual flameproof enclosures – controller above, isolator and buttons below.

  • Flexible hoses – two, running from the lower enclosure to the eyewash branch.

Installation

  1. Bolt the base plate to a pad; check the column is plumb and bond the earth point.

  2. Connect the flanged inlet with an upstream isolation valve and flush the line.

  3. Bring supply and trace cables into their respective enclosures through protected glands; check each box's marking against the area classification.

  4. Set the trace thermostat in the upper enclosure and record the figure.

  5. Check the isolator in the lower enclosure turns freely and the buttons operate the functions.

  6. Set both flows to the table figures, then label both circuits at the distribution board.

Operation and Maintenance

  • Weekly: operate both functions, check flows, confirm the trace display is normal, wipe basin and nozzles.

  • Monthly: inspect both enclosures, all glands and the hoses for damage; check lid bolts and earth continuity.

  • Before frost: prove the trace with the supply closed and confirm the setpoint against the record.

  • Annually: insulation resistance test, internal inspection of both boxes by a competent person, renewal of any perished hose.

  • After any work: restore lid bolts, glands and earth on whichever box was opened before the station returns to service.

Standards and Compliance

Designed to meet ANSI Z358.1-2014 for shower and eyewash flow, hands-free operation and simultaneous use. Electrical installation in a hazardous area must be carried out by a competent person and match the area classification; the enclosure markings govern and must be legible. Freeze protection does not replace tepid water, and siting within about ten seconds of the hazard, weekly activation and signage remain site responsibilities.

Applications

Refineries and petrochemical plants, fuel depots and loading gantries, solvent and paint production, gas processing, and any cold-climate outdoor station in a classified area where isolation and control have to be kept apart.

Ordering

Order by model RYFHS-FR07. Please state area classification, supply voltage and phase, lowest ambient temperature, inlet size and whether a tepid water mixing valve is required. The single-enclosure hazardous-area station, the heat-traced station for unclassified areas and the frost-valve station are also available.
