Product Overview

This is the shower half of a decontamination point, supplied on its own for sites that already have eyewash coverage or that only need full-body flushing. A single stainless steel column rises from a bolted floor flange to a large overhead deluge head, and the flow is started by pulling a stainless wire with a triangular handle. The valve is stay-open, so the casualty can let go and use both hands to remove contaminated clothing while the water keeps running.

Because there is no basin or platform, the unit takes up very little floor space, can be installed against a wall or beside a process line, and needs no pit — only a water connection at the base and a route for the run-off.

When a Shower-Only Station Is the Right Choice

  • An eyewash already exists – where a plumbed eyewash or a portable unit stands within the same 10-second zone, adding a second basin is unnecessary; the shower covers the body-only exposures.

  • Tight floor space – no platform or bowl means the footprint is effectively the column and the standing area under the head.

  • Body-only hazards – hot liquid, steam, chemical soak or dust on clothing and skin, where the eyes are protected by other means at that point.

  • Retrofit and extension – a standalone shower can be added to an existing safety point without rebuilding the eyewash station.

Key Features

  • Large overhead deluge head – wide bowl-shaped head spreads the flow over head and shoulders for full-body coverage.

  • Pull wire with triangular handle – a stainless wire hangs at reachable height; the triangular handle is easy to grab with a gloved or wet hand.

  • Stay-open valve – once opened, the shower keeps running without being held, and is closed deliberately by pushing the valve back.

  • All-stainless construction – column, arm, head and valve body in 304 stainless steel, polished, suitable for washdown and damp areas.

  • Bolted floor flange – a single flange fixes the column to a level floor; no platform, pit or drain tray required.

  • Single inlet at the base – one 1-1/4 inch connection, simple to isolate and test.

Operation

  1. Reach the shower within 10 seconds of the hazard and stand directly under the head.

  2. Pull the triangular handle downward; the valve opens and stays open, so both hands are free.

  3. Remove contaminated clothing under the running water and flush the affected body area for at least 15 minutes.

  4. Seek medical attention and keep the affected area covered while moving.

  5. Close the valve by pushing it back, and report the activation so the unit can be checked and the incident logged.

Installation and Commissioning

  • Position on a level, load-bearing floor on the same level as the hazard, within 10 seconds' travel, with a clear approach and no obstruction under the head.

  • Anchor through the floor flange with fixings matched to the floor type; check the column is plumb before final tightening.

  • Flush the supply line, connect the 1-1/4 inch inlet, pressure test at 0.2 – 0.4 MPa and check the valve gland for leaks.

  • Pull the wire and confirm the valve opens fully and stays open when released, then closes cleanly when pushed back.

  • Verify the shower flow rate and, where the site requires tepid water, fit a thermostatic mixing valve upstream.

  • Confirm that an eyewash is available within the same 10-second zone, fit the identification sign and record the commissioning date.

Maintenance

  • Weekly: pull the wire to operate the shower and confirm the valve stays open and closes fully.

  • Monthly: check the head for scale or debris and clean the perforations; inspect the wire for fraying and the handle for cracks.

  • Quarterly: check the column, flange bolts and valve body for corrosion, weeping or mechanical damage.

  • Annually: measure the flow rate, replace worn seals or the head if the pattern is uneven, and re-tag the unit.

Standards and Compliance

The unit is designed to the performance requirements of ANSI Z358.1-2014 and EN 15154 for emergency drench showers: a stay-open, hands-free valve, a head that delivers full-body coverage, and installation within 10 seconds' travel of the hazard on the same level, with the head at the height set by the standard. A shower-only station does not replace eyewash provision — where the hazard can affect the eyes, an eyewash must also be available within the same response zone.

Applications

Chemical and petrochemical plants, food and beverage production, paint and coating lines, battery and semiconductor plants, laboratories with separate eyewash provision, hot-liquid and steam areas, and warehouses where a shower is required but floor space for a full combination platform is not available.

Ordering

Order by model RYFHS027. Options include 316L stainless steel, thermostatic mixing valve, extended column height and a floor flange to suit the site. Please confirm supply pressure, floor type, required head height and whether an eyewash is already installed nearby when enquiring.
