A combination shower and eyewash on a green column, freeze protected by a heated riser, with the control gear in a flameproof enclosure fixed to the column: cast housing, rotary isolator, push buttons and a cable entry through a protection-rated gland.
The station itself is no different from the other freeze resistant units — stainless shower head, stainless basin with twin nozzles, triangular pull rod, bolted base plate. What changes is where it can be installed: a standard control box in a hazardous area is a source of ignition, and this version is built to keep the electrical part enclosed.
Hazardous areas – solvent stores, paint plants, gas and oil installations, dust-handling buildings, where a standard enclosure is not acceptable.
Local isolation – the rotary isolator is at the station, so the trace can be isolated by the person working on it rather than at a remote board.
Protected cable entry – the gland is part of the enclosure system, not an add-on, which is where ordinary boxes fail inspection.
Freeze protection retained – the heated riser still does its job; nothing about the Ex enclosure changes the flushing performance.
Certification stated honestly – the zone, gas group and temperature class the enclosure is certified for must be confirmed on the order; a station is only suitable if its marking matches the area.
Green square column – painted steel, bolted stainless base plate with earthing point.
Stainless shower head – forward arm, full-body coverage.
Stainless eyewash basin – twin nozzles with yellow and green caps, side bracket.
Triangular pull rod – stainless, stay-open shower valve.
Flameproof control enclosure – cast housing, rotary isolator, push buttons, protected gland.

Bolt the base plate to a pad; check the column is plumb and the earth point is bonded.
Connect the supply with an upstream isolation valve and flush the line.
Bring the cable into the enclosure through its own protected gland; do not substitute an ordinary gland.
Check the enclosure marking matches the area classification before energising.
Set the trace thermostat and confirm the riser warms with the supply closed.
Set the shower and eyewash flows to the table figures and label the circuit at the board.
Weekly: operate both functions, check flows, wipe basin and nozzles.
Monthly: inspect the enclosure, gland and cable for damage; check the isolator turns and the buttons are free.
Before frost: prove the trace with the supply closed, and check the enclosure seal and lid bolts are intact.
Annually: insulation resistance test, enclosure inspection by a competent person, and a check that the marking is still legible.
After any work: confirm lid bolts, gland and earth are restored before the station is returned to service — this is the part of an Ex installation that gets forgotten.
Designed to meet ANSI Z358.1-2014 for shower and eyewash flow, hands-free operation and simultaneous use. Electrical installation in a hazardous area must be carried out by a competent person and match the area classification; the enclosure marking governs, and a unit with the wrong marking is not suitable even if it looks identical. Freeze protection does not replace tepid water. Siting within about ten seconds of the hazard, weekly activation and clear signage remain site responsibilities.
Solvent and paint plants, gas and oil installations, fuel loading areas, dust-handling buildings, chemical process areas, and any outdoor station in a classified area that also has to survive frost.
Order by model RYFHS-FR04. Please state the area classification (zone, gas group, temperature class), supply voltage and phase, lowest ambient temperature, inlet size and whether a tepid water mixing valve is required. The standard heat-traced station, the frost-valve station and standard combination stations are also available.
