RY-EA-N2 Black ABS Single Eyewash Nozzle with Red Hinged Cap and M20 Female Thread

Product Overview

The RY-EA-N2 is a single eyewash nozzle: a black ABS body with a red hinged flip cap, a stainless steel perforated strainer disc in the mouth, and an internally threaded socket at the base in M20. It screws down onto a male spigot on the spray head or manifold, rather than into a boss, and is rotated on that spigot to aim the stream. The cap is joined to the body by an integral hinge, so it cannot be lost. It is supplied singly, for a single-nozzle station or as one half of a matched pair on a twin head.

The Red Cap Is a Visibility Decision

Most nozzles are one colour, and the cap is the same colour as the body. This one is not: a red cap on a black body, and that is the detail worth understanding before specifying it.

Why it matters. A cap left standing open is a nozzle sitting open to dust, and a nozzle found closed when the station is needed gives no water at all. On a mono-coloured head, both conditions look almost the same from a few steps away — you have to be at the station to tell. A red disc standing up from a black body is visible across a room, so the two failure states read differently at a glance, and the weekly walk-round becomes a look rather than an inspection.

What it does not fix. Colour makes an open cap obvious; it does not stop anyone leaving it open, and it does not tell you whether the strainer behind it is blocked. Those still need the physical activation test with the cap opened and the flow watched.

The female thread changes how it fits. The socket is threaded inside, so the nozzle screws onto a male spigot on the head — the opposite of a nozzle with a male shank that passes through a bowl. That has two consequences: the spigot must be the right size and undamaged, because a cracked male spigot cannot be repaired by tightening; and the aim is set by how far the nozzle is wound down, so the aim has to be checked after every refit rather than assumed.

The strainer is the first thing to blame. A perforated stainless disc in the mouth catches grit and scale before the waterway. When one side of a twin head runs weak, this disc is the usual cause, and poking at it with a wire is the usual way it gets damaged — a deformed disc distorts the stream and should be replaced.

Material limits. Black ABS does not corrode and takes moulding detail well, which is why the strainer seat and the hinge are clean; it is also temperature-limited and UV-sensitive, so it belongs on an indoor tepid-water station rather than an outdoor one.

Key Features

  • Red hinged cap on a black body, so an open cap is visible from across the room.

  • Integral hinge: the cap cannot be separated from the nozzle or dropped into the bowl.

  • Stainless perforated strainer disc in the mouth, replaceable when deformed.

  • M20 female threaded socket, screwing onto a male spigot on the spray head or manifold.

  • Aim set by winding the nozzle on its spigot; re-checked after every refit.

  • Black body that shows scale and residue, so a neglected nozzle is noticed.

  • Non-corroding ABS with clean moulded detail at the strainer seat and hinge.

  • Supplied singly, so a single-nozzle station or one side of a twin head can be repaired on its own.

  • Individual packing, suitable for spare-part stock on a maintenance van.

Fitting

  1. Isolate the station supply, lock the valve off and operate the station to release pressure before removing the old nozzle.

  2. Inspect the male spigot for cracks, cross-threading or missing threads; a damaged spigot must be repaired before a new nozzle goes on.

  3. Check the nozzle winds on by hand for its full engagement before any tool is used, and use only hand pressure plus a part turn on the moulded body.

  4. Restore the supply slowly, open the cap and check for weeping at the thread.

  5. Rotate the nozzle to aim the stream at the eye position, confirm it converges with its partner on a twin head, and check nothing sprays outside the bowl.

  6. Operate at full flow and record the reading; confirm the cap seats again and stands clearly when open.

Maintenance and Inspection

Weekly: check both caps are closed and seated, then open them and operate the station for at least three minutes, confirming full streams and correct aim.

Monthly: rinse the strainer disc and look through it against a light; check the hinge for cracking and the thread for weeping.

Quarterly: remove the nozzle, clean the spigot thread and the disc properly, refit and re-aim; replace any disc that stays partly blocked.

Annually: replace the nozzle if the hinge is cracked, the body is chalky or brittle, or the thread no longer holds the aim.

Standards and Compliance

This nozzle is a component of an emergency eyewash; the installed station must meet ANSI Z358.1-2014 in full — fifteen minutes of flushing with tepid water at 20–37 °C, hands-free activation, nozzles at the required height above the floor and clearance from the wall, unobstructed access within ten seconds of the hazard, and a controlled twin stream at a velocity the casualty can tolerate with the eyes held open. Covers must be present and functional at every inspection, and a nozzle replacement does not by itself make a station compliant: the aim, the height and the flow must be verified after fitting. A cap left standing open is a finding even though the colour makes it easy to see.

Applications

Replacement of blocked, discoloured or damaged nozzles on bowl-type eye wash stations, single-nozzle stations, one side of a twin head where only one nozzle has failed, and spare-part stock for indoor benches and workshops on a tepid supply.

Ordering

State the model RY-EA-N2, the thread size required (M20 as designated, or the size to match your spigot), the quantity, and whether spare strainer discs are to be included. Confirm the make and model of the spray head so the spigot thread can be checked. For outdoor stations, or stations that are periodically flushed hot, ask about the stainless and metal-capped alternatives, since moulded ABS is temperature-limited and degrades under sustained UV.
