Product Overview

An 8 litre eye wash that is worn on the back and pumped by hand. The yellow tank carries shoulder straps, a wide funnel filler with a red pressure relief valve, and a blue pump handle that pressurises the tank. Water leaves through a wand with twin green nozzles, so the stream can be pointed at the face while the hands stay free.

Because the tank is pressurised, the flow does not weaken as the level drops — the difference between this and a gravity bottle of the same size is that the last litre sprays as hard as the first.

Why a Pressurised Backpack

  • Worn, not carried – shoulder straps leave both hands free to hold an eyelid open or steady the wand.

  • Steady pressure – pumping to pressure before use gives an even stream instead of a falling head of water.

  • Walks with the worker – spraying, dusting, mixing, fieldwork: the unit goes where the exposure is, not where a wall is.

  • Wand reach – the hose lets the nozzles be brought to the face rather than the face to the tank.

  • Trade-off stated – it needs pumping before use and gives under a minute of flushing from 8 L; it is a first-aid bridge, not a station.

Pump, Valve and Filler

  • Manual pump handle – blue plunger on the top of the tank, pumped until the tank is charged.

  • Pressure relief valve – red valve beside the filler; releases over-pressure and lets the tank be de-pressurised before opening.

  • Funnel filler – wide blue funnel for filling without a hose.

  • Wand and hose – twin green nozzles on a short wand, hose clipped to the tank side.

Construction

  • 8 L yellow HDPE tank – moulded body with capacity and brand marking.

  • Backpack straps – shoulder harness for hands-free carrying.

  • Pump assembly – handle, cylinder and seal inside the tank neck.

  • Twin nozzle wand – green heads on a short lance.

  • Pressure relief valve – red, beside the filler.

Filling, Pressurising and Weekly Care

  1. Release the red relief valve before opening the filler — never open a pressurised tank.

  2. Fill through the funnel with clean tepid water and close the filler firmly.

  3. Pump the handle until the tank is charged, then test the wand: an even cone from both nozzles.

  4. Wear the unit on both shoulders, wand clipped at the side, and check the hose is not trapped.

  5. Weekly: release pressure, replace the water, pump and test, and wipe the nozzles and funnel.

  6. After use: release pressure, empty and rinse, refill and re-pressurise before returning it to service.

Maintenance

  • Weekly: water change, pump test, relief valve check, nozzle wipe.

  • Monthly: inspect the pump seal and the wand hose for perishing; check that the straps and buckles are sound.

  • Quarterly: sanitise and rinse the tank; check the relief valve opens freely.

  • Annually: replace pump seals and the hose if the rubber has stiffened; re-test the run time.

Standards and Compliance

This is a portable first-aid eye wash, not a fixed station: 8 L cannot deliver the fifteen-minute flush ANSI Z358.1 describes. It starts the flushing at the point of exposure and bridges the walk to a plumbed unit — a fixed station must still be within about ten seconds of the hazard. Water must be changed weekly, kept tepid where the standard requires it, and the unit kept filled and charged rather than stored flat.

Applications

Agriculture and spraying, field and forestry work, dust and chemical handling, maintenance and service calls, remote sites, and any task where a worker walks away from fixed facilities with both hands occupied.
