Product Overview

This station combines a stainless steel eyewash basin with an overhead drench shower on a single column, and splits the two functions cleanly: the basin is protected by a flip dust cover, and the water is controlled by a foot pedal at the base of the column, linked up to the eyewash valve by a chain. The user steps on the pedal to start the flush and lifts the foot to stop it, so both hands remain free to hold the eyelids open — the arrangement that ANSI Z358.1 expects for hands-free eyewash operation.

The whole station — column, shower arm, head, basin, cover, pedal and chain — is stainless steel, and it anchors to the floor through a bolted flange, so no platform or pit is needed.

How It Works

  1. Standby: the flip cover sits closed over the basin, keeping dust, swarf and splashes off the spray heads; the foot pedal rests in the raised position with the valve closed.

  2. Eyewash: the user stands at the basin, lifts the cover and presses the foot pedal. The chain pulls the valve open and water starts; releasing the pedal closes it.

  3. Shower: the overhead deluge is opened by pulling the cord with the triangular handle; the valve stays open so clothing can be removed.

  4. Reset: the cover is lowered and the pedal released so the station is ready for the next user.

Key Features

  • Foot pedal with chain linkage – the pedal sits at the front of the base where a standing user naturally places a foot; the chain transfers the movement to the eyewash valve without extra levers.

  • Flip dust cover – a hinged stainless lid keeps the bowl and nozzles clean between uses, which is the most common cause of weak or blocked eyewash flow on plant.

  • Twin eyewash heads – two aerated nozzles at an upward angle flush both eyes together with a soft, wide pattern.

  • Overhead deluge shower – large bowl-shaped head with pull cord and triangular handle; the stay-open valve keeps the deluge running without being held.

  • Green safety sign – mounted at the basin so the station is identifiable from the walkway.

  • All-stainless construction – including the pedal and chain, so the linkage does not seize in wet or corrosive areas.

  • Bolted floor flange – a single column fixed through a floor flange; no platform, pit or drain tray.

Operation

  1. Reach the station within 10 seconds of the hazard and stand facing the basin with one foot on the pedal.

  2. Lift the flip cover, then press the pedal to start the eyewash; keep the pressure steady so the flow is continuous.

  3. Put the eyes into the flow, hold the eyelids open with thumbs and forefingers and roll the eyes so water reaches every surface.

  4. For body contamination, pull the triangular cord to start the deluge; the valve stays open until it is pushed back.

  5. Flush for at least 15 minutes and remove contaminated clothing under the running water, then seek medical attention.

  6. Release the pedal and lower the cover; the eyewash stops when the pedal returns.

Installation and Commissioning

  • Position on a level, load-bearing floor on the same level as the hazard, within 10 seconds' travel, with room to stand at the basin and operate the pedal.

  • Anchor through the floor flange with fixings matched to the floor; check the column is plumb before final tightening.

  • Set the pedal so it sits just above the floor at rest and travels fully without touching the ground when pressed.

  • Flush the supply line, connect the 1-1/4 inch inlet and pressure test at 0.2 – 0.4 MPa, checking the internal split to shower and eyewash.

  • Operate the pedal and the pull cord repeatedly: the eyewash must start and stop cleanly, the cord must hold the shower open, and the flip cover must not bind.

  • Verify flow rates and, where tepid water is required, fit a thermostatic mixing valve upstream; fix the sign and record the commissioning date.

Maintenance

  • Weekly: press the pedal and pull the cord to confirm both functions operate and both close fully; check that the cover opens freely.

  • Monthly: clean the spray heads, cover and inside of the bowl; inspect the chain, the pedal hinge and the valve linkage for wear, slack or sticking.

  • Quarterly: check the column, flange bolts and pedal for corrosion; adjust the chain tension if the pedal travel has changed.

  • Annually: measure flow rates, replace worn seals, chain or nozzles, and re-tag the station.

Standards and Compliance

The station is designed to the performance requirements of ANSI Z358.1-2014 and EN 15154 for combination emergency shower and eyewash equipment: hands-free eyewash activation by foot pedal, a stay-open shower valve, twin eyewash heads delivering a controlled low-pressure flush, and shower coverage of the whole body. Installation on the same level as the hazard, within 10 seconds' travel, with heads at the heights set by the standard, must be verified at commissioning.

Applications

Chemical and pharmaceutical plants, university and industrial laboratories, paint and coating lines, machine shops, food and beverage production and battery plants — particularly where operators wear gloves and prefer to start the flush with a foot rather than a hand.

Ordering

Order by model RYFHS028. Options include 316L stainless steel, thermostatic mixing valve, bowl drain connection and a floor flange to suit the site. Please confirm supply pressure, floor type, required basin height and whether the pedal is to be operated from the left or right side.
